Jersey Boys Premium19 June 2014 | by Francine Stock
I’ve not seen the stage production of Jersey Boys, the musical about the group the Four Seasons featuring Frankie Valli, internationally famous from the 1960s. The show has been running around the world since 2005, with the famous hits (“Sherry”, “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, “Oh, What A Night” etc.) interspersed with each member giving his version of the story in direct address to the audience. For the screen the musical book’s writers Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice have reduced this breakage of the fourth wall (the imaginary wall between audience and performers). It’s directed by Clint Eastwood (whose interest in music, jazz in particular, has manifest itself in the Charlie Parker biopic Bird and various soundtracks over the years).
