Every so often, though, an original drama becomes a hit there and one of them – Jon Robin Baitz’s 2010 success, Other Desert Cities – comes to its UK premiere with high praise from American critics.Students of modern American drama soon note that certain elements recur across the work of several major writers: Eugene O’Neill, Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, Edward Albee and Sam Shepherd have all resonantly dealt with American families harbouring secrets and a lost child.
