Edge III: is the figure dead or just asleep

The man is lying on his back, feet flat against the wall, hands by his side like a prone soldier. He is staring up at the ceiling and, in Catholic parlance, he is levitating: suspended parallel to the floor, about a foot off the ground.
He is, of course, Antony Gormley.
