An artist’s work is laced with clues about her or his story; and in the case of the typographer Elizabeth Friedlander that certainly includes the font she designed early in her career, in the 1930s, in her native Germany. The letters are elegant, clear and understated, which feels very much like the character of the woman whose life is unpacked in the current show of her work in Ditchling (until 29 April).
