Guardian columnist Marina Hyde remarked in the opening tranche of this three-part series: “We’re all opinion columnists now. What a terrible world to live in.” For a programme bent on exposing the evils of brash self-assertion and overstating one’s case, The Confidence Trick (30 October, continues to 13 November) was full of these odd little moments of self-deprecation.
