While many writers adapt or translate classic texts, Mike Bartlett goes fascinatingly further: he writes the plays great authors might have made from the present day.

King Charles III imagined, in Shakespearean language, the current heir to the House of Windsor reaching the throne, and the hit TV drama Doctor Foster relocated Medea by Euripides to a medical centre in Middle England. In Albion, his latest stage play, Bartlett examines pre-Brexit England through the eyes of Chekhov.
