Knowing how the Radio 4 commissioning editors go about their business, I couldn’t quite work out how Richard Holmes’s celebration of the genius of John Keats (3 September) got the committee’s nod. Certainly, the bicentenary of his death isn’t due until 2021. Perhaps it was merely that some grand Corporation eminence remembered just how entertaining Holmes can be in rapt pursuit of one of his biographical subjects and determined to let him have his head.
