Any Tablet readers living abroad, or perhaps with better things to think about, may have missed the rumpus that accompanied the announcement that the independent production company that makes The Great British Bake Off had received an offer they couldn’t refuse and would be moving from the BBC to Channel 4. The news was followed by storms of outrage on Twitter: apparently GBB was exactly the sort of programme that should be celebrated on a public service broadcasting channel and absolutely not be interrupted by common commercials.
