What will sin look like?

FutureProofing
BBC Radio 4

It’s not often that FutureProofing sails off from its usual channel of techno-prophecy into more ethical waters, but last week’s discussion of the future of “sin” (7 June) could have given The Moral Maze a run for its money. Adroitly helmed by Timandra Harkness and Leo Johnson, it began with a series of starkly framed questions. Would what we think of as sin change its shape? Would it be social rather than individual? Could technology be pressed into service to stop people behaving badly? And if, 50 years hence, we were guilty of transgressing some moral norm, how would we go about confessing our error?
